“You Don’t Have to Try So Hard”

5:00am alarm, gym.  Come home, get showered, put on favorite lotion and spray.  Get dressed, curl hair, put on make-up.  Pause.  Check back of hair in mirror, hair spray.  Check again – more hair spray.  Look in the mirror at my face, pluck that stray eyebrow.  Fix make-up.  Check face again.  Ugh, this is exhausting!!  Then the thought comes to mind, “You Don’t Have to Try So Hard, Kami.  Why are you trying so hard?”

Do those words ever come to your head?  They have been on my mind a lot lately ever since I heard Colbie Caillat’s most recent song and video called TRY.
I am Brave and Beautiful – a beauty movement that is sweeping the globe.  My
blogging friend Megan of Brassy Apple wanted to push this movement along and invited women from all over to share what they looked like without make up and I joined in!! Colbie’s song says, “Take your make up off. Let your hair down… Look into the mirror at yourself, Do you like you? Cause I like you… “
Megan and her friend Cobi of Peacefrom6pieces have been the team behind this whole project. Their worldwide vision included creating their own video inspired by the song TRY. The talent of Robbins Creative made it possible for them to pull it off. You have to click play and see the beauty and bravery displayed and you might even recognize a few faces in there.
Me, along with 101+ other blogging women from different backgrounds, religions, ethnicities, ages, shapes and sizes, have decided to be Brave and Beautiful! You can join in this movement too by sharing what you look like without makeup on. You don’t need a blog either! Just tag your photo with #IamBraveAndBeautiful on Instgram and search the hashtag to see who else has joined in. ALSO, if you tag it with a second hashtag – #ColbieTRY we just might be able to get Colbie Caillat’s attention since she was the inspiration behind it all!
Are you brave and beautiful? I am, here I go!

All ready, all dressed up, full-make up on, and hair done by a professional.  This is the picture you see above.  It was taken by my sister who is a photographer.  I may have told her to erase a few wrinkles, airbrush a few blemishes…don’t we all feel great when we get ready and feel beautiful?  …on the outside!

Above is my picture without make-up!!  I was super-nervous to reveal my no make-up face to the world.  I have acne scars, wrinkles, un-even skin tone, and sundamage to my face.  I even have a smaller left eye and when I smile it sometimes disappears when I don’t have make-up on!  Hahaha!  Oh boy, listen to me tear myself apart.  This is not good!  Why do we do this to ourselves?

But guess what?  I have to tell you that my most favorite part of the day is at night when I dress down in my nightgown, pull my hair up into a pony, and wash my make-up off.  It feel so good to clean my face at the end of the day.  And though I don’t love people seeing me that way, I feel so good and so fresh.  I am still the same me underneath it all.

Make-up can cover up so many blemishes, but it doesn’t cover up who we truly are inside.  No matter how much make-up we put on your face, people can always see who we really are.

I hope that you know who I really am.  I hope that behind the screen of my computer you know that I am a kind, loving, and caring human being.  That I love who I am inside and out, even without make-up, curled hair, and trendy clothes.

Don’t be shy, girl
Take it off
This is what you want, to belong
So they like you. Do you like you?
You don’t have to try so hard
You don’t have to give it all away
You just have to get up, get up, get up, get up
You don’t have to change a single thing
You don’t have to try, try, try, try
You don’t have to try, try, try, try
You don’t have to try, try, try, try
You don’t have to try
You don’t have to try
OhGet your shopping on,
At the mall,
Max your credit cards
You don’t have to choose,
Buy it all
So they like you. Do they like you?
Wait a second,
Why should you care, what they think of you
When you’re all alone, by yourself
Do you like you? Do you like you?
You don’t have to try so hard
You don’t have to give it all away
You just have to get up, get up, get up, get up
You don’t have to change a single thing
You don’t have to try so hard
You don’t have to bend until you break
You just have to get up, get up, get up, get up
You don’t have to change a single thing
You don’t have to try, try, try, try
You don’t have to try, try, try, try
You don’t have to try, try, try, try
You don’t have to try
You don’t have to try, try, try, try
You don’t have to try, try, try, try
You don’t have to try, try, try, try
You don’t have to try
You don’t have to try
No
Oh
You don’t have to try so hard
You don’t have to give it all away
You just have to get up, get up, get up, get up
You don’t have to change a single thing
You don’t have to try, try, try, try
You don’t have to try, try, try, try
You don’t have to try
You don’t have to try
Take your make up off
Let your hair down
Take a breath
Look into the mirror, at yourself
Don’t you like you?
Cause I like you

Love this girl! Thanks for sharing <3 I feel the same way about getting into PJs and washing the makeup off and feeling clean, even if I don’t want anyone to see me like that! But says so much about how good being natural can feel! In the short time we met at the video, you were such a sweetheart, and I really appreciated it:). Thanks again girl!
