I don't want to be annoying, I just want to go to Ellen!

If you're friends with me on Facebook, you might think I'm annoying.  Same with Instagram!  I started a campaign today because all's I've ever wanted is to go to The Ellen Show.  I have been requesting tickets for over a year and haven't had any luck!!  Anyways, if you get time, would you go to the link below and 'like' this picture on Ellen's Facebook page?  I'm trying to grab their attention.  I don't know if this will work, but it's worth a shot!  I don't usually like asking for things like this from readers/facebookers, but I surely would appreciate it!  Thanks!

Pancakes and Syrup from Scratch

I don't know why I haven't shared my pancake and maple syrup recipes with you yet.  I honestly make pancakes every other day for my girls.  We love them!  I have loved making my pancakes and syrup from scratch.

Remember I told you that a goal for 2012 was that I wanted to make more things from scratch?  Well, pancakes and syrup are so easy, why not?  Plus, they are sooooo much yummier when they're homemade!  I've tried and tested a lot of pancake recipes from scratch and finally came across one and then tweeked a few things to make it how I love it.  So without further adieu...

Best Ever Homemade Pancakes
(I use this same recipe to make waffles too!)

1.5 C. Flour
3 T. Sugar
3 t. Baking Powder
Dash of salt
4 T. butter
1.5 C. milk
2 Eggs
1.5 t. vanilla

Wisk the eggs, milk, and vanilla together then set aside.  In a separate bowl, mix all dry ingredients.  Slowly add the egg mixture into the dry mixture.  DON'T OVERMIX, or you'll get flat pancakes!

In a separate bowl, melt butter.  Fold it into your pancake mixture then let sit for 5 minutes before putting on the griddle.  And make sure you dip your finger in and have a taste of the batter 'cause it is sooooo good!

A little twist:  Sometimes I like to add some 'hidden health'.  If I feel like doing that then I add 1/2 C. rolled oats and 2 smashed bananas.  MMMM!  Enjoy!
**Also, I always have a bunch left over since I usually just make them for the girls and me so I put them in a freezer zip-lock and we have them for the rest of the week.  Easy breakfast!

Check out my recipe for Pumpkin Protein Pancakes HERE.

Here is my recipe for yummy Maple Syrup
 Best Ever Homemade Maple Syrup

4 C. Sugar
2 C. Water
1 T. Karo Syrup
1/2 C. Brown Sugar
1 t. Maple Extract
1/2 t. Vanilla

Put sugar, water, karo syrup, and brown sugar in a pan and bring to a rolling boil while stirring.  Let simmer for 5 minutes.  Add the maple extract and vanilla extract.

Every time I am going to make pancakes my girls ask if they can help me.  They love being in the kitchen.  I used to just tell them I would make them really quick but then I started to realize what a fun thing it is to have my girls want to learn to do what I do.  I have taken this as an opportunity to teach then a skill and to create memories with them.  Instead of stressing about messes and putting in wrong ingredients I have found that if I let them have their own bowl and utinsels, I worry less.

So here are a few tips if you have little helpers in the kitchen with you:
1.  Get them their own aprons.  I just let them wear mine and they love it.  It makes them feel more legit.
2.  Give them their own little bowl and wooden spoon.
3.  Let them get their ingredients.  Instead of letting them put in large amounts of ingredients, I just let them use a small spoonful or even tablespoons/teaspoons.
4.  Let them stir!  They love this.  However, I don't ever let them use eggs in theirs because they always end up wanting to taste test!
5.  Just throw their mixture away since they obviously aren't really making anything and there is only a small amount you will be wasting.  There  may be extra dishes to do, but don't worry about it - you just made a memory!

I love that my girls love being in the kitchen with me and hope that it is something they will remember forever.  Plus, this is a skill they will have when they get married and make breakfast for their families!

What's new in my home...

Awe, lucky you!  You get to peek into my laundry room today! {it's actually my laundry 'space', not quite big enough to call a room!}  I say that you're lucky because this door is usually closed when guests come over!
A reader left a comment not too long ago telling me she liked the 'What's New in My Home' posts.  The problem is, I've kind of lost momentum when it comes to trying to decorate my home!  I have a huge 'To Do List' but haven't crossed anything off in a while!  But here's the latest things I've added:
For a long time, I was trying to figure out how to cover up those darn hook-ups to the washer and dryer.  At the same time, I was trying to figure out something I could make from this vintage tablecloth my grandma recently gave me-it had a hole in it.  I made these curtains and hung them from the bottom of my cabinets.

I'm hoping someday I will be able to paint the wall and change the light fixture in here to brighten things up, but until then I need to get creative.  Any ideas?

I need to apologize for my pictures.  My camera is pretty crummy.  I take the pictures in hope that I can upload them to Picmonkey and tweek them up a lot!  But still, if you have a crummy camera then it makes for crummy pictures!  Maybe for my Birthday?!!  Oops, that's what I said last year!

Freshly baked...

Charli has lately been playing a lot with these felt chocolate chip cookies made by one of her aunts for her 1st birthday.  I thought it'd be fun to get her a pan and make her a few more cookies.  Sugar cookies!
I bought the pan from WalMart for .97 cents!  I had tons of felt in my craft boxes, tons of beads, and a little batting.

 I simply cut 2 of each shape out of a light, cream colored felt with pinking shears.  For the frosting I just used colored felt and cut it out with normal scissors in a wavy-like way.  Then I sewed beads on for the sprinkles then glued the frosting part to the top of the cookie part.  After that I took a little batting and sandwiched it between the two pieces of felt and sewed around it so now the cookie was stuffed and fluffy!  {we all love fluffy sugar cookies, right?}
I thought it'd be fun to have the felt velcro to the pan so I glued the sharp velcro down to the pan with Gorilla Glue.  The cookie part needs no velcro because it basically acts like the soft velcro anyways!
I'm not gonna lie, I'm a little hungry now!  Making these cookies was so much fun I might go make some real ones!

I think making felt cookies could be addicting.  Maybe I'll make some for every holiday?  ...Halloween, Christmas, Valentine cookies?!!

The Charly with a 'Y'

I'm so excited that the movie from Jack Weyland's book "Charly" is back in theaters for its 10th reunion!  After watching this for the first time {about 10 years ago} I decided I was going to name my first little girl Charli, because I fell in love with the character in this movie.  This is one of my favorite movies for sure, and though it's a little cheesy in some parts, I can't get enough of it...even if it does jerk my tears out a little!

There have been a few changes to this movie, new scenes, and extras to fill in some of the holes.  Will you go see "Charly" in theaters?

Oh yeah, the soundtrack from this movie is great too, check it out!

Meet the Puppetmasters!

The other day Charli's cousin Lily was over at our house and it was a little rainy outside.  We decided to have a puppet show.  I had some spare socks lying around and a bunch of felt and crap.  I let the girls make their own puppets, they both chose to make unicorn puppets!  I made a bunny.
Sparkles the Unicorn and Wunny the Bunny
Olivia watched the puppetshow.  Yes, she was still in her jammies at noon.  It was one of those days!

Trending: Stack Bracelets {like Emily Maynard's}

Okay, okay, okay.  I have a confession:  I wanna be Emily Maynard {from the recent season of the Bachelorette}.
She is such a sweetheart, very mature, and without mentioning, beautiful.
Many of my friends and I were very much into this season and watched faithfully every week until she finally chose Utahn Jef Holm!  Yay!

Since I cannot be Emily for reals, can't dye my hair that blonde, a few of my friends and I thought we'd have a girl's night and make some "Emily Bracelets", as we like to call them!
If you see Emily on TV or in pictures, she is always wearing a wrist full  arm full of bracelets, which she pulls off so well!

So here are a few things you will need:
Waxed linen cord (or waxed cotton)

Here is a good tutorial we used to get a general idea of how to make them.  After making one or two like that, we kind of just started making up our own!!
And, because we don't get together as much as we should, and we were up later than our usual bedtimes, we were being a little goofy!
We forgot to take pictures when we were all there so here is just one friend and me.
Her's turned out way cute (the beautiful had on the left with pretty nails and rings!)
And...we thought we'd go back to our elementary days and have a thumb war since we don't know what to do with our hands when we are being hand models! LOL!

You can bet I will be making more of these in every color!

If you haven't had a night out with your girlfriends in a while then plan one.  It's so much fun to have a night out to yourself without worrying about husbands, kids, and bedtime!  Oh yeah, and calories!

Toddler Tip of the Day

The other night I made grilled cheese and tomato soup, a favorite of ours.  Yes, it was 100 degrees outside, but I have had a summer cold and wanted nothing more than hot soup going down my throat!

I've got two picky eaters.  This is how I get them to eat tomato soup...
And they both ate it with smiles on their faces!
