Ombre Painted Frame Directions

.
Here is another take on the
I got a request to make one in aqua blue and I must say, I am a fan!  I stuck an old wedding photo in of my hubby and me!  Awe!!

This is pretty self-explanatory, but I did take a few photos of some of the steps to briefly show you how to make one.  You can see a video of my Studio 5 segment on how to make this and other paint stick projects HERE.

What you'll need:
  • 8X10 dollar store frame
  • About 6-8 paint stirring sticks from your paint store
  • Darkest shade of the color of your choice in acrylic paint
  • White acrylic paint
  • Hot glue
  • Sand paper
  • Razor blade
First you will want to measure your sticks to the frame and cut accordingly.  Cut your sticks by scoring all four sides of your stick well enough that after scoring you can just brake it.  Sand the rough edges.
Next, arrange the sticks to the order in which they will be glued to your frame.

Painting is the next step.  This is the best way to get the ombre colors:
Start with white.  Squeeze a large amount of white paint onto a paper plate.  Add a few drops of the desired color into the white and mix well until you get the lightest color of your shades.  Paint your top stick.  For the second stick, add a little bit more of your color to the already mixed paint, then paint your second stick.  Do the same thing to the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, etc.  Just add a few drops in to make them darker as you go!

Let your sticks dry then softly sand all edges to give it that 'beach wood' look.  Hot glue them to your frame and BAM!  you're done!
